For Corporate Treasuries

Crypto treasury management: digital assets on the balance sheet, under policy.

Crypto treasury management that lets you hold, earn on and borrow against crypto with the controls, audit trail and reporting your board and auditors require.

Why Abra

Built for the corporate balance sheet.

Treasury-grade controls, not exchange-grade risk.

Policy-aligned

Fits your investment policy statement, approvals, and controls.

Audit-ready

Reporting and documentation built to meet or exceed the expectations of auditors.

Yield on idle reserves

Put treasury reserves to work on dollars and Bitcoin.

Liquidity without selling

Borrow against your assets while preserving the position and strategy.

What sets Abra apart

One balance, not five accounts.

Custody, collateral, risk and reporting are connected to one balance, so treasury can put reserves to work, borrow against them and report on both without manually moving assets between separate accounts. Your SMA is held at a third-party custodian, and compliance monitoring sits inside the product rather than bolted on.

Why treasurers are looking at digital assets

What brings a treasurer to digital assets.

Three questions tend to come up. The first is idle cash: operating cash above the working capital buffer usually sits in bank deposits, money market funds or Treasury bills.

The second is a long-dated view on inflation and currency debasement, which leads some boards to consider a small bitcoin position as a reserve asset. The third is what peers are doing.

None of these is a reason on its own. The question is whether a sized, controlled allocation fits the company's investment policy and risk appetite, and whether the board can defend the decision whichever way prices move.

Treasury policy

Crypto treasury management starts with the policy.

Corporate crypto treasury management, whether for a corporate bitcoin treasury or a corporate stablecoin treasury for idle cash, starts with a written policy the board approves.

  • Purpose and limits

State why the company holds digital assets, which assets are permitted and the limit as a share of cash and investments.

  • Custody and approvals

Set the custody standard, who can approve a transfer and how approvals map to the company's signing authorities.

  • Bitcoin on balance sheet: accounting

Under FASB ASU 2023-08, in-scope crypto assets are measured at fair value, with changes recognized in net income, for fiscal years beginning after December 15, 2024. Confirm the treatment with your auditor.

  • Reporting and exit

Agree the reporting cadence to the board and the conditions under which the company would reduce or exit the position.

FAQ

Crypto treasury management questions.

Under FASB ASU 2023-08, effective for fiscal years beginning after December 15, 2024, in-scope crypto assets such as bitcoin are measured at fair value each reporting period, with gains and losses recognized in net income and presented separately, with expanded disclosures. Your auditor should confirm the treatment for your facts; this is not accounting advice.

Borrowing against holdings can provide liquidity without selling them. A loan carries liquidation risk if the collateral falls in value, and its accounting and tax treatment should be confirmed with your advisers.
